First snowfall of the season

The first snowfall of the season brings heightened awareness of essential needs that have been placed on the back burner for too long. A scurry of activity to quickly finish winterizing has filled our last week.
No longer will we fill the water tanks full. Hoses must be drained after each use, water pumps protected. Waters checked more frequently and plastic water pumps put inside. That means more work - afraid so. Don't worry it won't kill you! Did you find the snow shovel?  Nope still a.w.o.l.
-------------------------------------
Straw spread in deeper levels for all the birds and for the first time in quite a while all birds shut up at night. New chicken coop drawing close to completion is still waiting finishing touches. Will we finish it before the winter really sets in?
--------------------------------------
Propane lines all checked for weathering and filled. Antifreeze levels for all the vehicles checked, batteries, fluids, brakes, and tires. You know those windshield wipers need to be replaced too.
----------------------------------------
Feed bins for all animals filled in case we can't get out and food storages checked, rotated and refilled.
---------------------------------------
Summer clothes packed away and winter clothes brought out and sorted through to see if any still fit. You have lost a few pounds I see as those pants are falling off of you! I have 2 snow gloves for the left hand hmm wonder where the right ones wandered off to?
---------------------------------------------
Knowledge is our greatest tool so information is sought for spring plans for planting, poultry purchases, and landscaping plans. Are we buying a horse next spring? Will we have the property all fenced? We need more solar panels. That means more batteries, load protectors and converter. Budgets are poured over and discussed in depth.  The roof needs fixed. That will have to wait until tomorrow as the sun has said good night.
